Ten Things

1. Is the Lord being silent, or is he just being quiet? Look at 1st Kings 19:11-13
2. Is the Lord being silent or am I not listening attentively? Look at 1st Samuel 3:9-10
3. Is the lord being silent, or do I need to wait on his timing to speak? Look at Ecclesiastes 3:7
4. Is the Lord being silent, or am I seeking the counsel of man first? Look at 2nd Chronicles 18:4
5. Is the Lord being silent, or am I being double-minded and lacking faith? Look at James 1:5-8
6. Is the Lord being silent, or am I not being submissive to his will in my situation? Look at proverbs 3:5-6
7. Is the Lord being silent, or am I holding onto bitterness and unforgiveness? Look at Mark 11:25
8. Is the Lord being silent, or am I being impatient? Look at Romans 8:25
9. Is the Lord being silent, or do I not trust Him with my life and life of my loved ones? Look at Deuteronomy 1:30-32
10. Is the Lord being silent or is sin an obstacle to hearing his voice? Look at 2nd Chronicles 7:14

So there we have it. A roadmap, of sorts, for hearing God. It is important we remember that God can be quiet and so we must listen attentively when He whispers to us. We need to wait on His timing, even as we seek Him first. When we seek and wait, we must not doubt and when He speaks, we must submit to His will. This process requires us to give up bitterness and unforgiveness and be patient. Our patience is rewarded when we trust God and confess our sins to Him. For when we do, he hears our cry, forgives our sins and heals our land. We may well ask, “Can you hear me now?” And when we do, we must believe He not only hears us, but He will answer us in His perfect timing.
