Intertestamental period:
Between the last book of the Old Testament (Malachi) and the first book of the New Testament (Matthew) is this period of around 400 years known as the intertestamental period.
GOD WAS QUIET!
- Israel was waiting on a Promised Messiah.
- During those 400 years God was silent.
- Spiritually, it was like Winter, white and barren no specific
color. - When’s the green of Spring coming?
- Where is God in Winter?
- Point: God was working to bring the green While His people grow through the White.
- Galatians 4:4 “ it was the fullness of time. God sent His Son to be born into this world.“ GREEN.
“In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register.”
Luke chapter 2:1-3
“The seed of the woman will crush your head. The seed of the woman will save you from this serpent, from Satan.”
Gen. 3:15
1. In the winter I can trust God’s timing (Green is coming!)
- 2 Peter 3:4 They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”
- 2 Peter 3:9 “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.”
2. In the winter I can be confident that God is at work. (Green is coming)
- Psalms 121 :4 “ indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep”.
- Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call Him Immanuel. “ (740 BC)
- Hosea 11:1 When Israel was a youth I loved him, And out of Egypt I called My son.(760 BC)
- Matt. 2:14 “ So [a]Joseph got up and took the Child and His mother while it was still night, and left for Egypt. (60’s)
- 2 Peter 3:9 says, “God is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness.” And then it
says, “He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
