This is connected to that: Distractions

“ First, help me never to tell a lie. Second, give me neither poverty nor riches! Give me
just enough to satisfy my needs.9 For if I grow rich, I may deny you and say, “Who is the Lord?” And if I am too poor, I may steal and thus insult God’s holy name.

Proverbs 30:8-9

( JUST WHAT I NEED )

“When Joseph was taken to Egypt by the Ishmaelite
traders, he was purchased by Potiphar, an Egyptian
officer. Potiphar was captain of the guard for Pharaoh, the
king of Egypt.2 The LORD was with Joseph, so he
succeeded in everything he did as he served in the home of
his Egyptian master. 3 Potiphar noticed this and realized
that the LORD was with Joseph, giving him success in
everything he did. 4 This pleased Potiphar, so he soon
made Joseph his personal attendant. He put him in charge
of his entire household and everything he owned. Gen
39-1-6 39

5 From the day Joseph was put in charge of his
master’s household and property, the LORD began to
bless Potiphar’s household for Joseph’s sake. All
his household affairs ran smoothly, and his crops
and livestock flourished. 6 So Potiphar gave Joseph
complete administrative responsibility over
everything he owned. With Joseph there, he didn’t
worry about a thing—except what kind of food to
eat! Joseph was a very handsome and well-built
young man,”

Point

Blessings can become distractions, and if we’re not careful, we can miss the bigger thing that God has for us.

America has been blessed and is distracted from God’s will.

Blessings can become distractions.

  1. When they feel spiritual
    • “The LORD was with Joseph, so he succeeded in everything he did as he served in the home of his Egyptian master”
  2. When they feed our ego.
  3. When it fuels disbelief
    • Vs 3“Potiphar realized that the LORD was with Joseph.”

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites this: ‘You
have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from
heaven: 23 Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not
make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold.24 “‘Make
an altar of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt
offerings and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats and
your cattle. Wherever I cause my name to be honored, I will
come to you and bless you. 25 If you make an altar of stones
for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile
it if you use a tool on it. Genesis 20:22-25

What do you do when distracted?

Remember how God has worked in the past

Psalm 77

1 I cried out to God for help;
I cried out to God to hear me.
2 When I was in distress, I sought the Lord;
at night I stretched out untiring hands,
and I would not be comforted.

3 I remembered you, God, and I groaned;
I meditated, and my spirit grew faint.[b]
4 You kept my eyes from closing;
I was too troubled to speak.
5 I thought about the former days,
the years of long ago;

6 I remembered my songs in the night.
My heart meditated and my spirit asked:

7 “Will the Lord reject forever?
Will he never show his favor again?
8 Has his unfailing love vanished forever?
Has his promise failed for all time?
9 Has God forgotten to be merciful?
Has he in anger withheld his compassion?”

10 Then I thought, “To this I will appeal:
the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand.
11 I will remember the deeds of the LORD;
yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
12 I will consider all your works
and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”

13 Your ways, God, are holy.
What god is as great as our God?
14 You are the God who performs miracles;
you display your power among the peoples.

15 With your mighty arm you redeemed your people,
the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.

16 The waters saw you, God,
the waters saw you and writhed;
the very depths were convulsed.
17 The clouds poured down water,
the heavens resounded with thunder;
your arrows flashed back and forth.

18 Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind,
your lightning lit up the world;
the earth trembled and quaked.
19 Your path led through the sea,
your way through the mighty waters,
though your footprints were not seen.

20 You led your people like a flock
by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
