FIXED: Remember Those Who Ran The Race

FIXED: Remember Those Who Ran The Race

Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.

Hebrews 12:2

Point of this Series:

Find and walk in God’s strength by fixing our eyes on Jesus.

Encouragement = “words spoken that make someone feel better,”

Encourage =actually means “to fill with courage,” “to fill with strength.”

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud
of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will
not grow weary and lose heart.

Heb 12:1-3
  • Cloud of Witness=cloud mass floating through the sky. (It’s encompassing. We’re surrounded by it. You’re surrounded by people.)
  • Witness sees something and says something from the grandstand of the cloud
  • What are they saying to us from the cloud as we run our race?

1. Hebrews 1:7

    • 7 By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family.
    • Noah’s shouting to you: ”I know you’re tired. I know you are. I know the progress is slower than you thought it would be, but listen. The rain will come.” BY FAITH!

    2. Hebrews 11:8

      • By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going
      • Hebrews11:1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
      • Abraham & Sarah are shouting Even if you don’t know where He’s taking you, follow. Have Faith

      3. By faith, Joseph, when his end was near, spoke about the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt and gave instructions concerning the burial of his bones.

Joseph is shouting, “Would you stop it, please? For your own sake and for the sake of the people around you, would you stop feeling sorry for
        yourself?

        • Your story is still being written.
        • What others meant for evil, God meant for good.
        • Listen for the Cloud of Witnesses as you walk this week.
