God is Love – Jesus is God – Jesus is Love
1 John 4:8 – “Whoever does not love, does not know God, because God is love.”
John 8:58 – “Very truly I tell you, before Abraham was, I am!”
“When Love Came to Town”
I was there when they crucified my Lord I held the scabbard when the soldier drew his sword I threw the dice when they pierced his side But I’ve seen love conquer the great divide
When love comes to town I’m gonna jump that train When love comes to town I’m gonna catch that flame Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down But I did what I did before love came to town
Love First
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, body, and soul.
We love first because …
1 John 4:19 – “We love because He first loved us.”
Love Second
“and the second is like it: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” – Matthew 22:39
Romans 5:8 – “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Love Third
John 13:34-35 – “A new command I give you: Love one another, as I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know you are my disciples, if you love one
another.”
- Love First — because we love the Lord our God
- Love Second – because we love ourselves and He has deemed us worthy
- Love Third – because when we love others we show ourselves as followers of Jesus
